Brand New Shops Are Live on Style.com!

   April 3, 2006

Swedish born designer Helena Fredriksson draws her inspiration from the natural world. She begins her creative process by photographing foliage. These images then serve as templates when silkscreening onto her fabric stylized, organic motifs. The stark beauty of these screens of leaves in silhouette is then made into a narrative by "butterflying" or folding in half to create a pattern. This multi-disciplinary approach to the design process lends a uniqueness to each piece, which elevates it from an article of clothing to a piece of art.

We love the Wing dress, with its waist-cinching silhouette, and the asymmetrically cut Wave top in luxurious nude silk. The gauze slit, too, is a great example of Fredriksson's incorporation of the natural element in her creations. The collection is romantic, light and credits well the designer's philosophy that clothing should accent the sculptural beauty of the human body.
