Zale Corp. reported second-quarter earnings Wednesday rose less than 1 percent, to $88.1 million, or $1.80 per diluted share, from $87.8 million, or $1.78 per diluted share, during the same period a year ago, on sales that climbed to $1 billion from $993.7 million. Zale's results were affected by changes in accounting procedures related to accounting for gold and silver contracts and jewelry protection plans, the company said.

InGroup Founder Steven J. Seidman
teven J. Seidman, founder and chairman of InGroup Licensing, died Feb. 16 at Sloan-Kettering Memorial Hospital here after a nearly 20-year battle with cancer. He was 56.
