The design team behind Ananas, Jennifer Baum Lagdameo and Miwako Washio, were inspired to create their handbag collection while spending time in the Philippine Islands. The name Ananas means "pineapple" in French; quite apropos considering that the fabrication of their first bags were made of pina and abaca, textiles made from the pineapple and abaca plants, respectively. A few seasons later and the Ananas team has branched out into leather fabrication while still maintaining their laid-back island vibe. The bags feature taffeta interior linings, coconut shell rings and polished wooden hardware. The styling, too, are a nod to the Phillipines - the Furoshiki is inspired by the shape of the traditional Japanese folding cloth used to wrap gifts. Their tote bag is based on the styles used for centuries by Filipino women carrying their goods home from the markets.
