Holiday Shopping Starts Here

   November 21, 2005

In Fall 2004, Susan Hengst opened a sleek boutique in San Francisco's upwardly trendy Mission District. One short year later, her clean lines and easy-to-wear elegance are redefining the area's fashion landscape.

Up until now, the line has been available only at her own store and a small selection of boutiques such as TG170 in Manhattan's Lower East Side. Now a selection from her Fall 2005 line is available here on Shop.Style.com. Judging from the reaction from all of the PYTs (pretty young things) to Susan's outfit of her own design when she had lunch here recently at the Cond Nast cafeteria, we think you'll like it

With innovative patternmaking and a no-nonsense sensibility, every seam has purpose and each piece is clever, yet uncomplicated. By capitalizing on rich fabrics that flatter the female form, Susan's minimalism carries remarkable presence. Her versatile dress-it-up or dress-it-down Nymph top in iridescent fabric springs to luminous life. Her version of the little black dress is fluid and elegant in luxurious silk charmeuse. Her Sweet Shirt is lined in kitten-soft cotton, eliminating the need for an under-layer. Come east coast snow, or SF rain and fog, you'll want to live in Hengst this winter.
